IT ALL BEGAN WITH OUR OWN FAMILIES
Our story began at home, not dental school - with our own children's feeding struggles and our personal battles with breathing problems.
We didn't start out as airway specialists. We were general dentists watching our infants struggle to feed, experiencing the anxiety every parent feels when something isn't right. Even with our dental training, we didn't have the answers.
At the same time, we were dealing with our own unexplained health issues: poor sleep, chronic fatigue, and breathing difficulties.
And then everything clicked. The connection between tongue ties and infant feeding. The link between mouth breathing and child development. The relationship between airways and adult sleep problems. Every piece of the puzzle fell into place.
Through working with our own family members, I saw transformations that changed lives.
Now we spend our days helping other families find the same relief we did, treating everything from infant feeding issues to adult sleep problems through comprehensive airway care.
We're Drs. Meggie & Liz, Untethered's FOUNDERs.
How do I know if my child needs airway treatment?
Common signs include mouth breathing, snoring, restless sleep, bedwetting, dark circles under eyes, and behavioral issues. However, not every child with these symptoms needs intervention. We thoroughly evaluate each patient and turn away approximately 15% of consultations when treatment isn't necessary. Our priority is providing treatment only when it will truly benefit the patient.
What types of laser technology do you use for tongue tie treatment?
At Untethered, we use the LightScalpel CO2 laser, the gold standard in soft tissue procedures. This FDA-approved technology allows for precise treatment with minimal bleeding and faster healing. Our laser procedures are specifically designed for optimal results in treating tongue ties and lip ties in patients of all ages.
What does your collaborative care approach look like?
Our doctors work directly with your existing healthcare team throughout your treatment journey. We actively coordinate with pediatricians, ENTs, lactation consultants, speech therapists, and other specialists. For out-of-town patients, we can connect you with trained professionals in your area for follow-up care and ongoing support.
